How to Wash DTF Transfers (So They Last)

You spent time picking the perfect design, pressed it just right, and now it looks incredible. Don't blow it in the washing machine. DTF transfers are durable — but like anything worth having, they last a lot longer when you treat them right. Here's exactly how to wash and care for DTF-printed garments.

The Golden Rules of Washing DTF Transfers

• Wash inside-out. Always. This protects the design from friction against other clothes and the drum of the washer.
• Cold water only. Hot water breaks down the adhesive over time and can cause cracking. Cold water is gentler on the print and the fabric.
• Gentle cycle. Less agitation = less wear on the design. Your DTF transfer isn't training for a triathlon.
• Mild detergent. Skip the heavy-duty stuff with bleach or optical brighteners. A standard gentle detergent is all you need.
• No bleach. Ever. Bleach will destroy the print. This is non-negotiable.

Drying DTF Transfers

The dryer is where most DTF prints go to die — or at least age prematurely. Here's how to do it right:

• Low heat or air dry. High dryer heat is the #1 cause of cracking and peeling in DTF prints. Use the lowest heat setting or hang dry when possible.
• Don't over-dry. Pull the garment out while it's still slightly damp and let it finish air drying. Less heat exposure = longer-lasting print.
• No ironing directly on the design. If you need to iron the garment, flip it inside-out and iron on the reverse side. Or use a Teflon sheet over the design if you must iron on the front.
